I hate to be the one with the bad news but Alex passed away at seven this morning May 27th. I got a call from Eric Toth and I am sure that he would want to thank all of you for all your love and kindness you have shown Alex in the last few years. This site meant a lot ot Alex and all of you fine folks he thought alot of. I do not have any information at this time about services but I think they will be private for family type service. And there will be a memorial panel at San Diego that every one can attend. I have said this once before, but those 20 bags of letters and cards was a really beautiful thing for Alex. Not only was he shocked but I think he then knew how much he was loved by his fans and that his work will live forever. Send up a prayer for him and his family tonight. John |

So sorry to hear it, John. Thanks for letting us know.
Was this unexpected? I know Alex was having a rough time, healthwise.

Hello. I am Alex's oldest son Eric. I meant to be the one to let everyone know that my father did pass away this morning drawing/writing at his table. I do not have any further details other than I will forward an address for those interested in sending cards. We will arrange something appropriate at or around the convention this summer in San Diego. As John shared, all of your cards and letters of the recent past were very much appreciated by my father. Only in these last years did he begin to understand and accept the fact that his work had touched so many people's lives. In time, more information will follow.
Thank you. Eric and family. |

| I just heard the news from Steve Lieber. This is just awful. Eric, thanks for any info you have time to share, and I'm sorry. I lost my Dad last year and I understand. We all wish the best for you and your family. |

To all, Carrie and everyone, my heartfelt condolences. My mailbox will never be the same. Alex's daughter, Carrie, let me know this afternoon and I very much appreciate the call. There are too many things to remember and recount them all but I keep thinking of the guy who remembered the tour of the cookie factory and the landing of Balbo's Atlantic Italian squadron in such detail that he could draw what he saw 70 years later. In recent years he wanted recipes for potato pancakes and green teas. There was just so much to this man... so much...
God bless all, and goodnight...
Alex used to say, "Unhappy the know-it-all with no one to tell it to," and now that unhappy man is me... |

| I don't really know how to say how important your father, his life, and work have been to so many of us Eric. No matter how many times I said thank you to him, it could never have been enough. |

| I just heard about the sad news. My condolences, Eric, to you and your family. I've admired your father's art for a long time and he will be missed not only by we who are his fans but all who love the comic art medium. |

| My deepest sympathies to the Toth family and friends. The cards and letters sent to Alex Toth represent only a fraction of those fans and professionals touched and improved by exposure to his matchless artwork, and incisive opinions, on the art and craft of creating comics. |

Dear Eric,
I never had the opportunity to meet your father to thank him for all his work and legendary work ethic meant to me. I'm so sorry for your loss. If I can offer some small comfort please know that your father's work touched so many and inspired us all to work harder and do better. You and your family are in my thoughts. For what it's worth, I own one of his Superfriends model sheets and it hangs over my desk.
Sincerely, Tom Feister |

Oh, THAT went well, all quote and no new text.
I just wanted to say Alex was one of my favorite artists ever, a fantastically energetic cartoonist. In one breakfast, at a con in Houston, Texas in 1984, he taught me just about everything I needed to know about the comics business. Why artists should work from full script, why to letter your own stuff, how to walk away, and that he wouldn't forget your previous boyfriend was a big ol' jerk. Thoughts of peace for Alex and his family.
