Thanks for letting us know, John. Truly awful news to have to wake up to.
Mr. Toth, you are a continuing inspiration to people like me all over the world. You had the courage and courtesy to lay the path for us, we can but follow in your wake. Your innovations in the media of comics and animation design will live forever in the minds of us all.
Thank you, sir.

I did not know personally Alexander Toth, I knew only his drawings. I cannot say if he was a good man or nice, but he was certainly a large narrator for images. It is difficult to say what the artist leaves to us because the suggestions that he gave us with his pictures are an individual property than all we take care jealously in our memory. I remember to have read a short drawn self-biography in which Alex talked about his first years of life, of its father and mother, a capable designer, of his first drawings. Here, I want to remember not the large artist that all we admire, but the child that learned to draw under the look of its mommy and wich appeared to the world with large curiosity and desire to live. Hello Alex.

We'll not see his like again -- it's the passing of an era. Memorial Day now has even more meaning for Toth fans. Godspeed Alex.

My heartfelt condolences go to the family of Mr. Toth. My very first exposure to his work was the FBI Story, without knowing it was by Alex Toth at that time. R.I.P. Mr. Toth. |

My condolences to Alexander Toth's family, and to Dave Cook and John Hitchcock for the loss of a friend. And my thanks to Jeff Rose for all his efforts with this site.

| I just read of the news of Mr. Toths passing this morning on another forum. I knew who he was and of is work. But not until 10 minutes ago did I realize the depth of his influence on me and my life. I am a comic creator and artist. I've drawn since I was in 2nd grade. My parents divorced when I was 4. Being the typical angry divorced kid, I sought out worlds to escape in. Comics and T.V. became those worlds. Now, after all these years, I may have been looking for something that made sense and was dependable. No matter what every time I opened a page or turned on the tube those characters...those worlds were there. I became a part of them. Alot of those worlds...a lot of those character, as I discovered this morning were created by Mr. Toth. Space Ghost, The Herculoids and all the others I immersed myself in every saturday morning. The two saddest moments of growing up and getting older is discovering that those worlds are make believe. The second is watching those that helped bring those places and people to life, that helped shape and define who you are, pass on. From my family to yours we wish you the best during this difficult time. I lost my father last year and I do know how you feel. Another sad price of getting older. We will be thinking good thoughts for your family. Before I go, a small consolation. When my oldest daughter, who is now 14, was smaller we watched all those old classics on cartoon network. To this day she knows who Spaceghost is, The Herculoids...all of them. And this morning I'm letting her know who created them. Your fathers influence lives on. My Best, James Giar |

The news of Mr.Toth's passing hit me so hard I was unable to draw last night. Just this past weekend I was fortunate enought to meet 2 of my idols Jordi Bernet and Alex Nino at Supercon in Oakland. There was a lenghthy discussion about Mr.Toth's art and the influence he had on all of us artists in the medium. His work reached everyone and seeped deep into our lives more than we realised. Anyone who watched Hanna Barbera cartoons or had a Superfriend lunchbox or read his comics were touched by Mr.Toth. It really saddens me that I will never get to meet Mr.Toth but I'm glad he left us a legacy of work we will always treasure. My heart felt condolences to the family of Mr.Toth. And Thank you Mr. Toth for all the inspiration and teaching us how to think and see outside of the box. Sincerely, Buzz.

ALEX TOTH The Greatest illustrator in the history of comic book art. Here's a quote that comes to mind about his art, may have found it on this very site:
'You know you've achieved perfection in design, not when you have nothing more to add, but when you have nothing more to take away.'
-Antoine de Sain-Exupery
ALEX TOTH is the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth, may his work live on forever to inspire the best within us.

So sad news, and so sudden, at least for me.
All my thoughts goes to his family, and his friends John, Dave and the others i didn't know.
A giant has passed, but he gave us so many things and will go on with his art. He is one of those from who i learned so much for drawing.
Take off and take flight in peace Alex.............
